The European Commission has been proposed to prepare the corresponding legislative framework.
Heads of Ministries of Internal Affairs of the European Union (EU) have recommended that the European Commission should prepare the legislative framework for limiting actions of Schengen agreement for two years, as it was said by Minister for Migration of Netherlands Klass Dijkhoff, RBC-Ukraine reports.
“EU member countries propose the European Commission to prepare the legislative and practical framework for continuing temporary measures on additional border control in accordance with Article 26 of the Schengen agreement”, said Dijkhoff.
Pursuant to Article 26 of the Schengen agreement, states can strengthen border control and limit actions of Schengen agreement within two years of “exclusive circumstances”.
It should be noted that Austria, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, France and Norway have announced about strengthening their border control.
“If the border control is preserved within two years, it is unlikely that it will be cancelled some day”, said the official from EU, The Times reports.
Currently the Schengen Area consists of 22 European Union member states and four non-members.
