The negotiations on signing the agreement have been conducted since 2006, Correspondent reports.

Ukraine and the European Organization for Justice have signed cooperation agreement. The document was signed during the working visit of President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko on Monday, June 27, in Brussels.

General Prosecutor Yurii Lutsenko signed the agreement on the Ukrainian part, President of the European Organization for Justice Michelle Konings – on the European part.

“The entry into force of the agreement will create the legal basis for using by Ukraine of the opportunities of Eurojust and envisages the real enhancement of efficiency of competent bodies of Ukraine and EU in investigation and prosecution of felonies of transnational character, in particular, terrorism, illegal turnover of drugs, human trafficking, corruption, cybercrime, money laundering, fraud and other crimes, committed with participation of transborder criminal organizations”, - the President’s press-office reports.

The agreement will enter into force after fulfilment of internal procedures by the Parties. In Ukraine this agreement should be ratified by the Parliament.

As Lutsenko said after signing, the agreement with the European Organization for Justice will help in terms of returning assets, which were illegally moved out.

“Yes, this will help (in terms of returning assets). How it happens today: we ask if it is true that Britain had transfer from some offshore to other. Some countries give the answer in a month, some - in three years. This is inefficient”, Lutsenko said.

According to him, there are many countries, which delay their responses to the requests of Ukraine, which significantly decreases efficiency of case investigation. Lutsenko also added that now Ukraine and EU will be able to create joint investigative groups, to rapidly exchange information, coordinate its actions.
