US Congress House of Representatives adopted the draft law, stipulating the creation of special interdepartmental group, which will stand against disguised attempts of Russia “to exert influence on citizens and governments of other states”, BBC reports.
As the journalists note, the draft law goes against the claimed Trump’s promises to improve relationships with Russia.
The document on financing intelligence agencies in 2017, having secret enclosure, touches upon the issues of threats to national security.
In particular, in the 93-page draft law, adopted by the majority voting – 390 “for”, 30 “against”, it is said that Russia “manipulates mass media and finances agents of influence”, “exerting hidden influence over peoples and governments”.
The commission will be assigned to “counteract policy of Russia, aimed at exerting hidden influence, including exposure of false information, agents of influence, corruption, violation of human rights, terrorism and murders, committed by security agencies and political elites of the Russian Federation and their henchmen”.
In addition, this document proposes countermeasures against terrorist activities in Iraq, Syria and North Africa as well as cyberspace and outer space.
The draft law stipulates that more than USD 70 billion will be allocated in 2017 for US intelligence.
US Senate should consider the draft law by the end of this year. Then the document will be sent to the country’s president.
