US President Barack Obama acknowledged that he was caught flat-footed by actions of Islamic State group, which captured immense territories of Iraq and Syria in 2014, RIA News reports.
“The ISIS capability to organize large ground offensives was not on the screen of my radar”, Obama said during his interview to CNN.
In the meantime, Obama is confident that his administration always undertook best measures in fighting against ISIS.
“Were we impeccable in implementation of complex policy in the region? No, of course… did we take best decisions, which were available to us at each stage? The answer is affirmative”, Obama said.
ISIS expansion became one of major global issues for the last two years. The group, which, according to CIA, initially comprised 30 ths militants, declared their caliphate on the captured territories.
For fighting against terrorists, the USA created the international coalition, which will attack ISIS positions, however, in Syria it operates without approval from Damask. While conducting operations, Washington does not cooperate with Moscow, having confined itself to signing the conflict prevention protocol.
