The Lithuanian leader stated that Russia violates UN statute and prepares aggressive scenarios against neighboring countries.
While delivering speech at UN General Assembly, President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė stated that Russia and Belarus joint military exercises West-2017 are the part of information war and rehearsal of RF attack on neighboring countries, Correspondent.net reports.
“Today, the global attention is focused on North Korea and other regions; however, the same methods of blackmail and aggression are used in Ukraine and along NATO’s Eastern border. Around one hundred thousand Russian militaries participate in the exercises of offensive nature West-2017 on the borders of Baltic states and Poland and even in the Arctic”, Grybauskaitė noted.
In her opinion, conducting such exercises, Russia will “rehearse aggressive scenarios against neighboring states, training its army to attack”.
President of Lithuania considers that Russian military exercises are the part of information war, aimed at spreading fear.
Grybauskaitė emphasized that false news and aggressive propaganda are Russia’s military arsenal, except for weapons.
“Despite the special responsibility, imposed in RF – protection of international peace as the permanent member of the Security Council – Russia violates UN statute. It attacked Georgia, illegally annexed the Crimea and directly participates in the war in the east of Ukraine”, Lithuanian leader said.
