18 most corrupt countries in the world
Non-governmental organization, which is against corruption, the Transparency International, published a Corruption Perceptions Index for 2013. The main criterion in the development of this rating was the extent of corruption in the administrative and political institutions of these countries. This year's list includes 177 countries.
Corruption of countries was estimated according to 100-point scale. The most uncorrupt states scored bigger points. Accordingly, the states most prone to corruption received the lowest scores. This year, no country has reached a peak, while two-thirds of all states scored less than 50. This indicates the magnitude of the problem of corruption.
Analysts and entrepreneurs annually assess the extent of the office position abuse to obtain personal gain in different countries. To date, this ranking is the most widely used measure of corruption around the world.
This year's most corrupt nations were Somalia, North Korea and Afghanistan. Syria's image has deteriorated compared to the previous year due to civil war. The revolution in Libya also contributed to the spread of corruption in the country.
Denmark, New Zealand, Finland and Sweden acquired the status of the most uncorrupt countries in the world.
