Candidacy supported by 462 deputies
Angela Merkel is elected Federal Chancellor of Germany for the third consecutive time. At a meeting of the German Bundestag on Tuesday December 17, the candidacy of the head of the Christian Democratic Union, which won the parliamentary elections in October, was supported by 462 out of 631 deputies, as reported by Deutsche Welle.
Angela Merkel will lead the "grand coalition" government, which, in addition to the conservative CDU/CSU, also included the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SDPG).
After the parliamentary vote Merkel will travel to the residence of the President of Germany, where she will be officially awarded the credentials as head of the federal government. Then in the Bundestag the Chancellor will be sworn.
Later on Tuesday members of the new cabinet will receive credentials to their posts from the hands of the federal president. Then, after the swearing in at the Bundestag ministers will gather for the first meeting of the government.
