Currency operations are under special supervision
Actions undertaken to terminate the operation of currency exchange offices should be constantly overseen by investigative task forces of the Ministry of Revenue and Duties. Minister for Revenue and Duties Alexander Klimenko charged the investigation unit officers with this task, as reported by the press-office of the Ministry.
«This year we are facing new challenges and threats spurred by what happens with exchange rates in the currency market along with move to floating rates. That is why it is necessary to toughen measures and controls over currency operations, to create efficient mechanism counteracting schemes for illegal tax evasion and move of money outside Ukraine», - accentuated Alexander Klimenko.
According to Mr. Klimenko, currently appearing financial fraud schemes that are rather sophisticated necessitate undertaking preventive measures along with those enabling their destruction. The efficiency of fight against financial crimes should be additionally enhanced by IT innovations and analytical approach.
The reforms being conducted by task forces dealing with financial fraud investigation will help address this problem, taking into account that last year their efforts were efficient in facilitating counteraction against grey economy and financial crimes.
Thus, summarizing the results for 2013 the government budget received additionally almost 3 mln hryvnias owing to the actions carried out by the investigative task forces. Over 3,4 bln hryvnias from illegal VAT refunds were returned to the budget.
While conducting the meeting, Alexander Klimenko also underscored the necessity to intensify investigation of infringements of government procurement law, in particular, tackling the issue of additional controls counteracting peculation and money laundering.
Moreover, smuggling of products was also discussed.
Combating illegitimate production and spread of taxable goods in the domestic market and their cross-border transportation are of great importance, too.
«We are proactive in contributing to these actions internationally, which, in particular, are supported by the UN Office on Drugs and Crime. What matters is not only economical outcome of such cooperation but also international prestige of the Ministry and state on the whole. Reliability of the Ministry significantly increased during the previous year, and we strive to further prove and enhance it», - revenue and duties Minister said.
At the same time Alexander Klimenko charged officers of investigation task forces with building the zero tolerance system to fight corruption in the Ministry.
