The NBU staff - placed on leave
The Chair of the National Bank of Ukraine Valeria Gontariova said the banks located in the territories controlled by terrorists have been compelled to destroy the money they kept, having calculated the notes before in front of the camera, the Informator reports.
The NBU Chair believes it is better to destroy money than to give it to the enemy. «For days and days, different banks, in particular the national bank, were trying to deliver cash to the war region. However, they stumbled across the gunmen groups that took it away. Three is a war going on there», - the NBU Chair underscored.
All electronic payment systems in Donetsk and Luhansk have been cut off, while some amount of money was taken off for storage to a special depository. All bank employees working in the zone of the anti-terrorist operation were sent home, on a leave with pay.
Ms. Gontariova added around 3.9 billion hryvnias kept in the Crimean banks cannot be moved out so far as the peninsula has been annexed.
All notes in local currency were destroyed only after a prior consent of the bank management.
