Ireland is the least corrupt country
According to the data from TRACE International, a non-profit business association, Ukraine has taken the 132-nd position among 197 counties being assessed in terms of corruption risks; the 1st is the country with least corruption, RBK-Ukraine (РБК-Україна) reports.
Experts from TRACE International (this international association helps companies bring their policies in compliance with the anticorruption legislation) together with the American analytical centre Rand Corporation has presented a new corruption risk index. TRACE Matrix registers bribery cases throughout the world.
Ireland has been recognized the least corrupt country in the world. The second is Canada, the third - New Zealand, the fourth - Hong Kong, and the fifth is Sweden. Finland, Singapore, Japanese, Germany, the US have been listed among the top 10 economies less affected by corruption, according to the TRACE Matrix’s estimates. Georgia has been ranked the 11th.
According to TRACE Matrix, Russia lags behind Ukraine being down two positions only – ranked the 134 among 197 countries. Poland is the 31st, and Belorussia – the 74th. The countries nearby Ukraine are the African Republic of Djibouti (131) and Argentina (133).
All countries are assessed according to the four core criteria: evaluation of relationship between business and government, anticorruption laws in place and their actual application, transparency across the government agencies and relevant procedures, and availability of public control over all enumerated processes, including by mass media. Thus, TRACE Matrix represents the index from 1 to 100 values in the range: the higher the value, the higher the risks of corruption are in a particular country.
Ukraine has 64 out of 100 possible scores evidencing of rather high risks exposure for a business. In evaluating each factor in the breakdown table, the business-government liaison in Ukraine has gathered 69 out of 100 points. This score is computed based on frequency of communications between business and officials from different government agencies and, correspondingly, likelihood of a bribe demand. The anticorruption legislation in Ukraine has been given 52 scores.
According to TRACE Matrix, the riskiest countries, in terms of corruption, are Cambodia, Uzbekistan, Angola, Yemen and Nigeria.
