The Ukrainians oftener apply for asylum
A number of applications from the Ukrainians for granting asylum in the EU countries and those covered by the Schengen visa in May-July of 2014 increased 12 times as compared with a similar period of 2013, the report of the European Commission says, according to RBK-Ukraine (РБК-Україна).
“A number of applications from the Ukrainian citizens for granting asylum in the member states of the European Union and countries entered with the Schengen visa from May through July of 2014 exceeded two thousand five hundred applications (or 12 times more as compared with the figures for a similar period a year ago). Reportedly, the cases of staying abroad illegally also occur oftener” – the report says.
In addition, it has been mentioned that notwithstanding relatively rare occurrence of illegal border crossing by the citizens of Ukraine, the EU countries should pay due attention to such incidents in the interests of security of the EU and Schengen zone.
