The National Bank of Ukraine has prohibited issuing credits in hryvnia to buy foreign currency, said Chair of the central financial regulatory authority Valeria Gontariova at the press-conference, RBK-Ukraine (РБК-Україна) reports.
“The banks will be banned to give credits to their clients willing to spend them on purchase of foreign currencies. This is applied to both import agreements and debt repayment”, - said Gontariova.
The NBU Chair explained that to obtain a loan, an importer will have to buy the foreign currency for hryvnia or take loans in foreign currency from the Ukrainian banks.
He added that the said restriction will become valid starting tomorrow.
