EU Responds to Political Crisis in Ukraine

Friday, 12 February 2016 16:04

The European Union urges authorities and all political parties of Ukraine to join efforts for continuation of reform process in the country, as it is said in the statement of EU delegation in Kyiv.

“This is vitally important for the future of the country, its democratic development and well-being of people. The economic and social resurgence of Ukraine requires further improvement of conditions for running business as well as incessant citizens’ support of reforms, initiated by government”, - as it is said in the statement.

In particular, the delegation emphasizes that “concrete and convincing results in the fight against corruption are urgently needed”. The European diplomats note that one of the main priorities in this respect is the transparency of selection and appointment of managers of state enterprises and their financial reporting as well as measures, undertaken for privatization or liquidation of some such enterprises.

“The implementation of such program of reforms and simultaneous strengthening of democracy and supremacy of law, as stipulated by the Association Agreement, will require coordination of reform events on all directions”, as it is said in the statement.

According to diplomats, Ukraine should also double efforts, aimed at building the political consensus inside the democratic institutes.

“The European Union and its member countries provide significant financial and technical aid to Ukraine for such reforms and are ready to continue supporting the purposeful work on reforms”, as they assured at EU delegation.

It is emphasized in the statement that at this crucial moment the political leadership of Ukraine should put aside disputes and jointly focus on further performance of reform plan:

“Unity for support of such necessary reform should be the priority for all political forces”.

It should be reminded that three parliamentarian factions do not want to work with the government of Arsenii Yatseniuk and speak out in favor of changes in the Cabinet of Ministers.

In addition, previously some ministers decided to revoke their statements on resignation and continue to work in the Cabinet of Ministers. The Head of the Ministry of Economy Aivaras Abromavicius did not change his decision to resign his office.
