The National Bank intends to cancel for citizens a requirement about the necessity to present passports during conducting currency exchange transactions on the cash market, Ukrainian news reports.
This was said at the conference, on April 9, by the Head of Open Markets Department of the National Bank Serhei Ponomarenko.
“We wish to debureaucratize currency sale and purchase process and the requirements for copying documents will probably be reconsidered. That is, to certain amount – UAH 150 ths, which is consistent with financial monitoring, it will not be required from banks to save copies of documents”, - he said.
Since September 23, 2011, NBU obligated banks and currency exchanges to conduct documentary identification of individuals, carrying out FX transactions, producing copies of passports of citizens, exchanging currency.
Since March 28, 2014, NBU cancelled a requirement about the identification and copying of passports only during sale by individuals of cash foreign currency to banks; meanwhile, such requirement was not required during purchasing foreign currency by individuals.

It should be reminded that UAH 10 mln were seized during the raid to Kyiv’s illegal exchanges.
