EC proposed the question of cancellation of visas for Ukrainians for consideration of the European Parliament and EU Council, Correspondent.net reports.
The European Commission proposes the European Parliament and the EU Council to cancel visas for citizens of Ukraine.
The relevant document is published on the European Commission’s site.
“We follow up on our promise to propose visa-free short-term trips for Ukrainians with biometric passports, simplifying interpersonal contacts and strengthening economic, social and cultural connections with Ukraine and EU”, the message says.
It is noted that it is the result of Ukrainian government’s success in achieving far-reaching and complicated reforms in justice and internal affairs.
“I am very satisfied with achieved progress, which is an important achievement for citizens of Ukraine, and I hope that the European Parliament and Council will accept our proposal in the nearest time”, European Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship Dimitras Avramopoulos said.
After the proposal is accepted by the European Parliament and EU Council, Ukrainian citizens with biometric passports will be able to travel without visas on trips for 90 days to Schengen area. The visa-free regime will be applied to all EU member countries, except for Ireland and Great Britain as well as four associated countries (Iceland, Lichtenstein, Norway and Switzerland). The cancellation of visas does not stipulate the automatic granting the right to work in the EU.
