The Ministry of Justice works on the package of draft laws on this matter.
The Ministry of Justice prepares the package of proposals to the Parliament regarding the prevention of asset grabbing, Minister of Justice Pavel Petrenko wrote in Facebook.
“Currently the Ministry of Justice jointly with law enforcement agencies and the public sector prepares the package of proposals to the Verkhovna Rada on how to strengthen responsibility and eliminate any possibilities of illegal take-over of immovable property or business, because the scope of asset grabbing is much wider and the Ministry of Justice will not cope with this problem itself”, he stated.
According to Petrenko, the working group, including the representatives of business associations, is developing the package of draft laws.
The strengthening of criminal responsibility for asset grabbing is among the initiatives, the minister noted.
It is proposed to introduce a tough criminal responsibility for those persons, who are involved in asset grabbing, to equate it to the responsibility for corruption-related offences with special seizure of the whole property of those persons, who are the beneficiaries from asset grabbing.
In addition, Petrenko noted that it is proposed to remove “those populist norms”, which were passed back in 2014 regarding the simplification of registration procedure in terms of changing the company owners.
In addition, it is planned to return paper certificates of ownership of immovable property.
