Settling the “diesel scandal”, German automaker Volkswagen agreed in the USA that it will buy back and repair about 80 thousand cars of Audi’s subsidiary producer, DW reports quoting N-tv.
Attempting to settle conflict with US authorities, associated with the scandal over manipulations of these ecological tests, in the USA, after months-long negotiations the German automaker Volkswagen reached agreements on the repair and buy-back of about 80 ths diesel cars with three-liter motors, produced by Audi’s subsidiary company, N-tv reported quoting two unnamed sources on November 15.
The reached compromise suggests the buy-back of about 20 ths of older Audi cars and conditioning of other 60 thousand limousines and SUVs. The negotiations about the indemnification of damages for car owners are still being conducted with lawyers.
Previously VW already reached agreements regarding 475 thousand of diesel cars with two-liter motors, on which the illegal software, underrating the level of harmful car emission, was installed. VW and US agencies gave no comments. As of late November, this case was called on.
The “diesel scandal” erupted in September 2015, when the experts of US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reported that, according to their data, Volkswagen cars with diesel motors were fitted with software, permitting to manipulate tests for compliance of motors with ecologic standards. The top managers of the car producer acknowledged violations. Due to the scandal, CEO Martin Winterkorn resigned, Volkswagen US CEO Michael Horn also resigned from his post.
