Brits outraged at the possibility of freeing brutal murderers from prison
Britain may leave the European Court of Human Rights. The politicians are considering such possibility after latest ECHR ruling regarding British murderers serving life sentence, RBC -Ukraine reports with reference to the British media.
«Justice Minister Chris Grayling said that the authors of international conventions, written in the 50s to prevent the horrors of the Second World War from happening again, have turned over in their graves. An MP for the Conservatives, expressing views quite popular among the Tories, said that the ECHR ruling with its «perverted» approach pushes Britain to leave the ECHR system,» the statement reads.
The Minister of Justice, as well as Prime Minister David Cameron and many other British politicians are indignant at the decision adopted by the ECHR Grand Chamber on Tuesday, stating that UK accepted practice of convicting the most brutal murderers to life imprisonment without parole is «inhumane».
European Court proposed to review cases of such prisoners - 49 of them now in the UK - once in 25 years and let them go free, where possible.
Justice Minister Grayling stated that «the people of Britain would have a difficult time understanding» this court ruling, and Prime Minister Cameron told the journalists through his press secretary that «he is very, very disappointed» by the decision of the ECHR and will think about UK's exiting the organization, if the Conservatives win the next election.
