In 2016, the Ukrainians make up 1.14% from the number of all asylum seekers in Europe.
For half a year, the citizens of Ukraine submitted seven thousand applications.
The citizens of Ukraine began to seek refuge in EU countries less. The number of such seekers in 2016 decreased by 39%, Ukrinform reports, quoting the analyst of the public organization “Europe without Barriers” Ekaterina Kulchitskaya.
«If in 2015, out of 1 million 322 thousand applications for seeking refuge, 22 thousand were registered from Ukrainians, then in the first half of 2016, out of 617 thousand, 7 thousand were registered”, Kulchitskaya said during the press-conference “Visa-Free Regime and Migration: Results of the Year and Last Trends».
According to her, the number of refugee seekers in EU is decreasing primarily due to the fact that in most cases the European countries withhold permission for crossing the border.
«If within two months after signing the visa-free regime, the number of refugee seekers in EU increases by 50%, then the mechanism of suspension of visa liberalization will come into force», Kulchitskaya noted.
