Currently, the state controls 50% of the banking market.
The state can sell the nationalized PrivatBank within next three-four years, Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine Valeria Gontareva said.
«The bank can really be sold with a good multiplier, but perhaps, we will need to spend 3-4 years. EBRD was already invited to participate in the equity. I believe it will be a success story», Gontareva said in Liga.net interview.
She added that currently, the state controls 50% of the banking market and emphasized that as of today, PrivatBank has good balance, and the non-performing loan portfolio is totally reserved.
«If former shareholders restructure it, then the current equity level will be even redundant, and the money will return to the state», Gontareva added.
On December 18, the Cabinet of Minister of Ukraine adopted the decision on PrivatBank’s nationalization and the purchase of 100% of its shares by the Ministry of Finance for 1 hryvnia.
On December 26, the National Bank of Ukraine acknowledged the conversion of Eurobonds and the bonds of the subordinated debt of PrivatBank for the total amount of USD 595 mln into the bank equity during the nationalization. According to NBU message, neither payments will be made to bond holders.
