The Ukrainians keep UAH 21 bln on the accounts of Russian-owned banks, the National Bank reports.
Ukrainians keep a total of UAH 21 bln on the accounts of Russian-owned banks. However, if needed, the Deposit Insurance Fund can compensate only UAH 8.5 billion, Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine Ekaterina Rozhkova said during the interview to Inter channel, Correpondent.net reports.
According to her, the capital of these banks was increased and they have enough assets, including liquid assets; that is why they continue working in Ukraine. In the meantime, due to the sanctions, imposed on 16 March, they will not be able to withdraw funds from Ukraine to the benefit of subsidiaries.
“The sanctions are aimed at protecting the interests of the citizens of Ukraine, who have deposits in these financial institutions”, Rozhkova emphasized.
She also added that the loan portfolio of these banks will twice exceed the obligations to clients.
“The sale is the best way to leave the market of Ukraine. We cannot speak of any development of these banks on the territory of Ukraine. ”, Rozhkova added.
It should be reminded that previously the Donbass blockade staff office threatened to close Sberbank in Ukraine, giving two weeks, so that the clients withdrew money from their accounts.
