IMF considers that the gas price rise in Ukraine is positive.
KYIV. December 13. UNN. The gas price rise in Ukraine is the positive and important factor for the economy, IMF Resident Representative in Ukraine Gosta Ljungman said during the round table, UNN correspondent reports.
“From IMF perspective, we are confident that the gas price rise is important for the economy of Ukraine. Firstly, it gives correct economic signals, secondly, it ensures correct distribution of energy resources in the economy, provides resources to Naftogaz, contributes to development of the gas infrastructure” - G. Ljungman emphasized.
As he specified, it is necessary that there is no segmentation on the market, when the gas is sold to different consumers at different prices, because such model has a very high corruption component.
Wesupport the program, which can put the gas prices and utility rates at market level. We know that there was a criticism regarding the fact that these rates were unaffordable for disadvantaged families. But there are the subsidies, about 50% of households obtain them. That is why the gas price rise does not and will not have any significant influence the different social groups, who have low income. The gas supply for production of utility services at the prices, lower than market ones, is incorrect”, IMF representative summarized.
