The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of EU countries expect to have quite close partnership with USA after accession of Donald Trump to presidency, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini said, BBC reports.
“We decided together to cooperate with the next administration, starting from the first week of the transitional period”, she said as per the results of the informal ministers’ meeting in Brussels.
As Prime Minister of Belgium Didier Reyders noted, no matter what the new Executive Office of US President will be, it should know that Europe will have to strengthen security and defense measures.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary Peter Sjijgarto criticized “desperate and hysteric comments”, made by some EU leaders after electing Trump for the post of the President.
The relationships with Turkey and defense cooperation with NATO will be discussed at the official summit of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of EU countries, in which the representatives of all 28 countries of the union will participate.
Last Friday, Chairman of the European Commissioner Jean Claude Juncker made several strong statements regarding Donald Trump, saying that electing him as a president will pose a threat to the relationships of the USA and the European Union.
He also warned about the devastating consequences, which Trump’s statements can have about policy in terms of security.
