The USA has nothing to do with the murder of the Russian ambassador in Turkey Andrey Karlov; it is too soon to draw any conclusions about motives of this crime, State Department Spokesperson John Kirby said– RIA News reports.
Previously, Mayor of Ankara Melih Gökçek claimed that the diplomat’s murderer might be the member of the organization of Fethullah Gülen’s, whom the authorities accuse of organization of coup d'etat attempt in July.
“During the conversation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs (Turkey), the Secretary of State expressed concern regarding the messages, delivered in Turkey, on US involvement or aid to this awful murder due to presence of Mr. Gülen in the USA”, Kirby said at the briefing.
According to State Department spokesperson, Kerry said to Çavuşoğlu that such accusations are “absolutely false and not based on any truth”.
Kirby also noted that it is too soon to speak about motives of the murder of Russian ambassador before the completion of investigation.
Andrey Karlov was murdered during the opening of photography exhibition in Ankara. The perpetrator was Mevlüt Mert Altintaş, who worked more than two years in Turkish police. He was eliminated by task forces, which arrived on the scene.
President of Russia Vladimir Putin called this attack as a “mean murder” and provocation, targeted at disruption of good relationships with Turkey and regulation of situation in Syria.
