China hopes that the upcoming visit of the President of the People’s Republic of China to the USA will be a success and will determine the vector of further development of bilateral relationships, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of PRC Zheng Zeguang said, RIA News reports.

Trump and Xi Jinping will have a meeting in Trump’s residence in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, on April 6-7.

“This is the first meeting of the leaders of two countries after the entry into office of the new administration in the USA…Both parties hope that this visit will be absolutely successful, that it will determine the vector of development of Chinese and US relationships in a new era and will help achieve better results in bilateral relationships”, Zheng Zeguang said during the briefing.

The Chinese Deputy Minister also emphasized that within the conditions of deep complex changes, happening globally, this meeting will have a critical importance for promoting peace, stability and development in the Asian-Pacific region and the whole world.

Presidents of two countries will conduct the exhaustive exchange of opinions under the bilateral agenda as well as the issues representing a mutual interest. Zheng Zeguang also added that the meeting will help to strengthen bilateral mutual trust and expand cooperation in different spheres. As previously the White House reported, the country’s leaders will discuss the issues, associated with the international security and bilateral relationships. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Chao informed that during the visit, the parties will publish the joint statement, which formally acknowledges the status of a new type of bilateral relationships, which was approved in 2013.

On Thursday, Trump wrote in Twitter that the meeting with the President Xi Jinping will be “very difficult”. Zheng Zeguang left unanswered the request to comment if this phrase of President Trump will impact the upcoming meeting. “We attach high importance to the upcoming meeting. Currently, we conduct preparatory works to make this visit successful”, - Zheng Zeguang said.

The Chinese diplomat also declined to comment whether the Chinese party fears that Trump can create an embarrassing situation and insult the President Xi Jinping. “I did not want to comment on details; I would say that the parties attach high importance to this meeting”, he said.

During the visit, Xi Jinping will be accompanied by his spouse Peng Liyuan, who will be present at the welcoming party on behalf of Donald Trump and Melania Trump.
