On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump signed the executive order, which cancels the former president Barack Obama’s order on the emissions of coal power plants and overhauls the plan on combatting the climate change and reducing hazardous emissions (Clean Power Plant), RIA News reports quoting the White House.
“My administration ends war against coal”, US President announced during the signing ceremony in the headquarters of US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
According to Trump, US energy restrictions will be lifted, and its regulation will be reduced. “Within the last few years, EPA “aimed for” the whole branches, whole sectors of the economy. EPA will not do it again”, he said.
The critics of US President consider that it will be difficult to comply with the ambitious Paris Agreement on the reduction of emissions without the regulation of emissions, suggested by Obama. The Trump’s supporters claim that the order of the former US president was not fulfilled yet, because 28 states challenged it in court. Thus, the indirect influence of Trump’s order on the current level of emissions will be minimum.
Clean Power Plan included US obligations under the Paris Agreement and stipulated the bringing economic standards to 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025 (about 4.3 liters of fuel for 100 kilometers).
