For more than a year, Uber concealed the fact of the hacker attack, as the result of which the personal data of 50 million passengers and 7 million drivers of the service were stolen, and paid the perpetrators to prevent future leakage, Finance.ua reports quoting Bloomberg.
The incident happened in 2016. The hackers gained access to domains, electronic addresses and mobile phone numbers of 50 million users of Uber.
Reportedly, the company concealed the fact of data theft and paid hackers 100 thousand dollars for deleting data and non-disclosure of information about what happened.
Uber noted that the perpetrators did not manage to obtain the data of bank cards, social insurance numbers and the history of trips. According to the company, nobody used the stolen data.
After the public disclosure, the New York Attorney General Office also initiated the investigation of the accident.
