According to some information, Intel sells the majority stake of its business unit, dealing with augmented reality technology. Apparently, the plans of corporation to produce smart glasses under the trademark Vaunt this year will not be fulfilled, Finance.ua reports quoting Bloomberg.
Intel hopes to sell its AR business for USD 350 mln, the source, familiar with situation, told Bloomberg. The plans of the company are not public, the agency reports. Intel’s representative refused from comments. The unit, which Intel allegedly plans to sell, develops smart glasses, connecting to the smartphone by Bluetooth. The users will be able to see information through the laser ray, reflecting from lenses.
The Taiwan company Quanta Computer should have dealt with the product output. Inside Intel, the technology is known as Superlite, but the business, which will be sold, will sooner be called as Vaunt.
Intel already refused from some of its consumer products, when it failed in the wearable devices market. Now, the company intends to attract investors, who can make investment in this business, having reliable sales channels, specialized or designer knowledge, instead of regular financiers.
According to Goldman Sachs estimates, the global market of the equipment for augmented and virtual reality can be assessed at $110 bln by 2025, while the profit from this specialized software will be other USD 72 bln.
