The Ukraine’s economic losses from the launch of Russia’s GTS Nord Stream 2 may reach about USD 3 bln, Commercial Director of Naftogaz of Ukraine NJSC Yuri Vitrenko said during interview with one of TV channels, UNN reports.
“It refers to (Ukraine’s losses due to the launch of Nord Stream 2) even larger money, and it is about 3 bln dollars and respectively 3% of GDP… It refers to the fact that currently, Ukraine should persistently defend its interests, first of all, economic interests. It also refers to the fact that if there is no transit, the military risks for Ukraine will increase; that is why it is important for us to preserve transit (of gas to the European Union)”, Yu. Vitrenko told.
He added that today, Ukraine works to preserve gas transit. In addition, according to him, the EU decision, which may influence construction of Nord Stream 2, is expected.
“For this purpose, we should work with our international partners in Europe and there are certain successes; now, we are expecting for the final decision of the European Council, which will probably influence the fact that Nord Stream will not be constructed. On the other hand, there is the home task, i.e. we should make certain steps in Ukraine in order to decrease the risk of building this Nord Stream 2”, Yu. Vitrenko summarized.
