CEO of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg admitted that he made a mistake by not paying proper attention to the user data protection that led to the leakage of confidential information, he claimed in his written statements to U.S. Congress due to the scandal around the fact that Cambridge Analytica used personal data of Facebook account owners for Donald Trump’s election campaign, UN reports quoting Reuters.

“Now, it is clear that we did not do everything that depended on us, in order to prevent usage of these tools to the detriment of users, namely for distributing fake news, foreign interference with elections and hate speech”, Reuters quotes extracts from Zuckerberg’s testimony, presented in U.S. Congress. “We were not fully aware of our responsibility and it was a mistake”, CEO of Facebook admitted.

“It was my fault, and I apologize, - Mark Zuckerberg said, - I found Facebook, I manage it, and I am responsible for what happens here”.

It should be reminded that Facebook was in the middle of the scandal after The New York Times reported that the British analytical firm Cambridge Analytica managed to collect personal data of more than 50 mln social media users in order to develop the algorithm for analyzing the voters’ political preferences. As the former employees of the company told, the created algorithm facilitated mailing the political ads in order to potentially impact their votes. Later, Facebook reported data leakage of almost 90 mln users. Cambridge Analytica interfered with election processes all over the world, resorting to bribes and distributing negative information about candidates in the Internet.
