Twitter sold Cambridge Analytica a 24-hour access to user data and all tweets in 2015, Engadget reports.
Except for one-day access, the company purchased an occasional selection of tweets from December 2014 to April 2015. According to Twitter representatives, the company does not see access to “private information” in sold data. It is unknown what was in received information and how Cambridge Analytica used these data.
Recently, the scandal erupted for Facebook – the company sold Cambridge Analytica an access to confidential data of 87 mln users, most of whom are U.S. citizens. The analytical company obtained access to the users’ ‘likes’ statistics, comments and activities. Probably, these data were then used for creating advertisements of U.S presidential elections.
Facebook’s founder Mark Zuckerberg admitted the data leakage and changed some Facebook rules, allowing the users to remove this information. Despite that, much criticism came on the social media due to the information leakage, and Facebook stocks plummeted by 15%.
After the scandal, the #DeleteFacebook hashtag was launched in social media, and some largest companies, such as Playboy, SpaceX and Tesla deleted their accounts in social media.
