U.S. should increase its involvement in the Council, but not withdraw from it, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Raad Al Hussein said.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Raad Al Hussein stated that the news about U.S. withdrawal from the Council is “disappointing”, Correspondent.net reports.
“It is the disappointing, if not surprising, news. Taking into account in which condition the human rights are currently in the world. U.S. should increase its involvement (in the Council), but not withdraw from it”, Zeid Raad Al Hussein wrote in Twitter.
It should be reminded that previously, the United States Ambassador to the United Nations stated that the U.S. withdraws from the Human Rights Council. Meanwhile, it noted that this step is not the derogation from obligations in human rights.
