U.S. electric car producer Tesla sharply increased prices for its cars in China after Beijing imposed retaliatory duties on U.S. goods import, MarketWatch reports quoting Electrek’s website on Monday, July 9.
Thus, during weekends, the price of Model S sedan and Model X crossover in China increased by $22.6-$37.6 thousand, depending on the configuration.
Tesla still does not have production capacities in China, though previously, the company informed about its plans to build a plant in Shanghai Free-Trade Zone.
In 2017, about 17% of Tesla’s revenues accounted for China. The company sold 15 thousand cars.
It should be reminded that last week, U.S. announced about coming into force of tariffs on Chinese goods, totaling $34 bln per year. China took the same measures in respect to U.S. goods, imported to the country.
