The Kyiv Pechersk District Court has arrested the former governor of the National Bank Ihor Sorkin in absentia, as it is said in the court decision dated March 1, EP reports.
The General Prosecutor’s Office investigates the criminal proceeding on cases of illegal appropriation of funds of the National Bank for the total amount of about UAH 787.3 mln by NBU and Real-Bank officials.
In addition, Sorkin is suspected of appropriation of the funds of OJSC “Agrarian Fund” for the total amount of more than UAH 2 billion by previous concert with officials of the NBU, Brockbusinessbank and PJSC “Agrarian Fund”.
On September 7, 2015, the General Prosecutor’s Office delivered a notification on suspecting Sorkin of committing crimes, stipulated in part 1 art. 255 (creation of criminal organization) and part 5 of the article 191 (conversion, embezzlement of property or appropriation by abusing their official position) of the Criminal Code.
In October 2015 the court arrested 2 parking stalls, which belong to Sorkin.
Taking into consideration the fact that Sorkin is put on the international wanted list, the court deems it appropriate to select the custodial detention as the pre-trial restriction for him.
It should be reminded that Sorkin occupied the post of the NBU Governor since January 2013 till February 24, 2014.
