Western partners fear destabilization of political situation in Kyiv.
Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel and Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Christine Lagarde demanded a resolute struggle against corruption from Ukraine.
After disclosure of information about the offshore company of Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko Lagarde stated on Tuesday, April 5, in Berlin that anti-corruption activities should become a “key element” in IMF program for Ukraine.
According to her, IMF always emphasized that the struggle with corruption, for example, should be the part of program of actions of Ukrainian state company “Naftogaz”.
In its turn, Merkel assured Ukraine in further support, but this time she did not mention the president’s name, Reuters Agency reports.
According to her, all the steps, taken by international community on provision of aid to Ukraine, are correct.
Merkel noted that such steps together with anti-corruption and IMF program on the economic strengthening of the country include efforts on search for the political solution of the conflict in Donbass.
