EU countries and members of the European parliament reached compromise overnight into Thursday, December 8.
The European Union will unblock visa-free regime for the citizens of Ukraine and Georgia soon, Reuters reports quoting EU officials.
According to agency’s information, overnight into Thursday, on December 8, the representatives of EU countries and the members of the European Parliament reached compromise on the main impediment – the mechanism for urgent suspension of visa-free regime.
As of late November, EU had no unity in terms of the date of visa cancellation for Ukraine. Shortly before EU–Ukraine Summit, held on November 24 in Brussels, several countries expressed “sharp disagreement” on the mechanism of temporary cancellation of visa-free regime in case of massive violations. Germany, France, Italy and Belgium acted as main critics. Poland and Baltic states, on the contrary, insisted on solving the remaining issues as soon as possible.
