One of the largest international retailers H&M became interested in the Ukrainian market, liga.net reports.

According to the edition, this week H&M's Head for Emerging Markets Matthias Lamberg visited Ukraine.

As it is known, Swiss retailer H&M considered Ukraine for the second time.

For the first time, the retailer’s representatives visited the country in 2013, the real estate consultant said. Then all communications were carried out through Moscow office.

“The text of contracts for opening first stores in 2014 was already approved, but, at the last moment, the retailer refused from their plans”, - the interlocutor said.

According to his information, H&M planned to open stores in the center of Kyiv and in Respublika, which is under construction.

The suspension of development plans was connected with the beginning of the Revolution of Dignity as well as sharp decrease of living standards.

H&M did not respond to letters of Ukrainian developers for long, while the representatives of the company were banned from visiting Ukraine due to the beginning of military actions in the east of the country, the director of the large development company reported.

Currently, the company’s central office in Stockholm is responsible for possible entry into the Ukrainian market, the interlocutors told.

As reported, Swiss company still did not confirm any interest in opening sales outlets.

“Currently, H&M has no plans for opening stores in Ukraine”, H&M’s PR Manager Elnaz Barari said.

The interlocutors say that during the visit to Ukraine Matthias Lamberg reviewed the largest trade centers, such as Ocean Plaza, Lavina, Gulliver and others. The expert also familiarized with projects of several shopping malls under construction.

According to the information from interlocutors, the company is interested in the lease of premises with total area from 2,000 to 4,000 sq.m, but the final decision on entry into Ukraine’s market has not been taken yet.
