The European Parliament votes for the draft law on introduction of mechanism of suspension of EU’s visa-free regime with third countries.
The voting was held at the session of the European Parliament on December 15.
485 deputies voted for, 135 – against, 21 abstained from voting.
According to new rules, the visa-free regime with third countries may be suspended in one or several cases:
$ Considerable increase of the number of the country’s citizens, who are withheld from entering or who stay on EU territories longer than needed.
$ Considerable increase of groundless requests for asylum.
Decrease of cooperation on readmission (return of migrants) or
$ High risks or direct threat to state policy or internal security, associated with the citizens of third countries.
Last week, the Committee of Permanent Representatives of Member States of the EU (COREPER) approved on behalf of EU Council the compromise text, approved by the European Parliament regarding the mechanism of suspension of non-visa regime, without which the cancellation of visas for Ukraine is not possible.
The draft law on introduction of suspension of EU’s visa-free regime with third countries was also approved by the key Committee of the European Parliament on Human Freedoms, Justice and Internal Affairs.
As reported, introducing a new visa-free regime protector, EU envisaged the opportunity to suspend visa-free regime in case if the country cancels its reforms.
