The energy traders devalued the hryvnia, NBU states. The guilty are oil and gas traders, according to the central bank.
The weakening of the hryvnia rate against U.S. dollar in September is mainly due to the seasonal demand for foreign currency from energy traders, as reported on NBU’s website, Correspondent.net reports.
“The devaluation pressure over the hryvnia in September had mainly seasonal nature due to the traditional growth of demand for foreign currency from oil and gas traders, which strengthened by moderate price surge on the global oil market”, the message says.
The National Bank also noted the reduction of volumes of the supply of cash foreign currency from population with the increasing demand. The NBU is confident that the increase of population demand is explained by the seasonal worsening of expectations about currency rates.
Previously, the National Bank explained the weakening of Ukrainian hryvnia against U.S. dollars by temporary factors. In particular, because the business obtained VAT refund and the currency sale volume decreased.
The National Bank accused mass media of hryvnia devaluation.
It should be also reminded that the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine included the currency rate at 29.3 hryvnias per dollar into the draft state budget.
