Parents will be eligible to take a paternity leave until the child’s third birthday
At its meeting, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved a draft law titled On Changes to Some Enactments in Ukraine as regards granting extra social security benefits to the foster parents in work, the press-office of the Ministry of Social Policy reports.
As reported by Ministry for Social Policy Liudmila Denisova, the document sets out that the foster parents, who bring up orphans and children deprived of parental care, in foster homes or family-type children’s homes, are entitled to take a child care leave and stay at home until the child’s third birthday.
Nowadays, the legislation does not address this issue. The Labour Code and Law of Ukraine On Leaves say only adoptive parents and guardians have the right to take a child care leave until the child is three. In case this draft law is endorsed by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the foster parents will get equal social safeguards as other category of parents.
As Liudmyla Denisova said, this issue requires an immediate decision, given the fact that as of July 1 of the current there were 881 family-type children’s homes with 5 840 children, and 47 homes out of them with 53 children under 3 years.
«This decision passed by the government will boost growth of family-type homes fostering orphans and children deprived of parental care», - said the Minister.
