Ministry of Social Policy has proposed a new package of initiatives designed to help mothers with young children. This was announced at a roundtable by the Minister of Social Policy Natalia Korolevska, the press service of the Ministry informs.
«Ministry of Social Policy suggests allowing mothers with small children to take 1 year of the 3-year leave to care for a child at any time until the child is 8 years old. This practice will positively affect the employment of women. In addition, women will have the right to interrupt the leave and use it during the period when the child really needs it, for example, before school», Natalia Korolevska said.
According to her, 87% of women go back to work before the child is 3 years old due to the financial situation of the family and the need to keep up professional skills.
The package of initiatives also includes a sickness leave to the husband in the first weeks after giving birth to help the wife.
«Ministry of Social Policy designed the State program to ensure equal rights and opportunities for women and men by 2016, which is currently under approval of the Government. This document establishes target level indicators of economic activity and employment of women, reducing the gap in wages, increased representation of women in the government, etc.», Natalia Korolevska said.
