EU countries agreed to prolong sanctions against Ukrainian and Russian politicians, but yet have not come to agreement regarding economic restrictions against Russia, Wall Street Journal writes.
“Due to violation level decrease in the east of Ukraine and growing problems of Kyiv government, the number of European countries, which suppose that sanctions against Russia should be revised, has grown”, the edition writes, not indicating the number of countries.
It is noted that European diplomats will discuss relationships with Moscow this month.
One of the signs of change of attitude to Russia is called the plans of the President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker to go to the Economic Forum in St. Petersburg in June.
As WSJ emphasizes, Juncker can become the first top-ranking official, who will visit Russia after the annexation of the Crimea.
Previously Prime-Minister of Hungary Victor Orban reported that EU will automatically prolong sanctions against Russia and will discuss the fulfillment of Minsk agreements.
Previously Minister of Foreign Affairs of France Jean-Marc Aurault stated that EU can cancel sanctions against Russian in the future subject to any progress in realization of Minsk agreements.
On February 14 Prime-Minister of Russia Dmitrii Medvedev stated that sanctions do not have any results, and that’s why western countries should “get up the nerve” and call the date of its cancellation.
