The Levi’s new smart jacket, designed jointly with Google, demonstrates brave design solutions of up-to-date mobile technologies – AmericaRU reports.
The jacket, which Levi’s present in Austin this week, was produced in partnership with Google’s Project Jacquard, Division of Advanced Technology and Projects (ATAP). This group designed the conducting fibers, which are directly intertwined with clothes, so the moves, which you make on the left jacket sleeve cuff, are registered as sensor inputs, as if it were a display. Then they are sent to your smartphone through Bluetooth application, which is fixed in the jacket as the cufflink. The conducting fibers are flexible, they can be laundered; however, the cufflink with electronics needs to be removed before cleaning.
Initially, Google and Levi’s wanted to start the sale of smart jacket in spring, but postponed their plans until autumn. The reasons are not clear, because the jacket underwent many tests and demonstrated its performance capacity. The mobile application, used to work with it, is undergoing the final design stage.
The smart denim jacket will cost up to 350$. Later, the technology will obtain more functions.
