The USA should not withdraw from the Paris Agreement, but they should renegotiate the parameters of their participation in it, US Energy Secretary Rick Perry considers, RIA News reports.
“I am not going to speak to US President that we withdrew from the Paris agreement… I will say that probably we need to renegotiate it”, Perry, quoted by France Presse, said at the conference in New York.
According to the minister, the USA and China assumed large obligations under the agreement, however, as he considers, Germany and France can do more than it is noted down in the document.
The Paris Agreement, signed by 194 countries in December 2015, defines the global plan of actions, aimed at reducing global warming. It does not provide for the refusal from the mineral fuel and carbon dioxide emissions limitations. However, all the parties should undertake measures, aimed at reducing emissions, technological re-equipping and adaptation to climate change.
During the pre-election campaign, US President Donald Trump criticized the agreement, but, after he assumed office, he softened his stance. The USA occupied the second place in the world after China in terms of carbon dioxide emissions. In case of withdrawal from the Paris agreement, it will actually lose its point.
