Captain Jeff Davis, Pentagon’s Spokesperson, states that U.S. ballistic missile surveillance and intercept defense system is capable of protecting the U.S. from DPRK’s intercontinental missiles, BBC reports.
According to him, the missile, which DPRK launched on July 4, was not seen previously in North Korea. It had the unit, designed for delivering its warhead to the target.
U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson considers that Pyongyang’s launch of intercontinental missile is the evidence of escalation of the threat for U.S. as well for the whole world. Meanwhile, DPRK reports that the intercontinental missile HWASONG-14 passed its testing successfully.
According to Japanese militaries, this missile flew 37 minutes and covered the distance of 930 km. The experts calculated that these indicators allow confirming that the missile is intercontinental, but they doubt it can reach Alaska’s coasts.
If all the data are correct, then the radius of action of HWASONG-14 on the standard trajectory is about 6,700 km, the physicist and the member of the reputable U.S. public organization “Union of Concerned Scientists” David Wright considers.
It is enough to reach Alaska. However, it needs not just a missile; it should be equipped with the protection of the warhead, entering the atmosphere. It is not still clear whether DPRK has such technologies.
