U.S. President wants to increase defense spending due to threats, posed by DPRK, and expansion of the military contingent in Afghanistan.
U.S. President Donald Trump sent a letter to U.S. House of Representatives, in which he asks to increase the country’s defense budget expenditure for 2018 due to the situation around DPRK and Afghanistan, the White House Press Office reported, Correspondent.net reports.
“I ask the Congress to consider proposed amendments to the budget for 2018 financial year for the Department of Defense. The request includes other four billion dollars for supporting urgent antimissile defense measures for countering North Korea’s threat and…1.2 billion dollars for supporting the strategy of my administration in South Asia”, according to Trump’s letter to the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
He specified that the additional financing is needed for increasing U.S. military contingent in Afghanistan by 3.5 ths people.
In addition, the President asks to allocate 700 mln dollars for repairing U.S. Navy ships John McCain and Fitzgeral, which collided with civil ships in 2017.
It was previously reported that U.S. contingent in Afghanistan will be expanded by 3.5 ths militaries – up to 14.5 ths people.
