U.S. Department of State develops options for preventing the construction of the gas pipeline.
The team of U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson works on the way of blocking the construction of the gas pipeline Nord Stream 2, Correspondent.net reports quoting Washington Examiner, which refers to the source in U.S. Department of State.
It is noted that U.S. diplomats work with European allies, especially in Denmark, for preventing the construction of the pipeline, which should supply the natural gas in Germany.
“As Nord Stream 2 goes through the waters of Denmark, it can become a significant political and legal stumbling block, which is able to block the construction of gas pipeline”, Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Aaron Wess Mitchell said to U.S. SenateCommitteeonForeignRelations.
According to the diplomat, the new pipeline will concentrate 75 percent of Russian gas, supplied to Europe. He also expressed the opinion that such scenario does not meet the interests of Europe and U.S.
