Facebook may face a fine, amounting to over USD 1.6 bln, for hacking accounts, Daily Mail reported on Sunday, September 30.
It was pointed out that Facebook may be fined for 1.25 pounds sterling (about 1.62 bln dollars) after the hackers obtained access to 50 mln accounts. Reportedly, the access to account became available thanks to the option, which allows users to see their profile as other people see it.
In its estimates, the edition refers that according to a new EU legislation, the violating companies should pay up to 4% of the total amount of their revenues. Last year, Facebook obtained the profit, amounting to about USD 40 bln.
Previously, Facebook informed that the hackers found a vulnerability in the code and obtained access to 50 mln accounts.
Soon, the Taiwanese hacker Chang Chi-yuan promised to delete Facebook Founder’s account and translated this process.
