The British intelligence agencies fear that the free antivirus software, provided by Barclays, can use the Russian government as the intelligence tool for collecting information, The Financial Times reports quoting the source in British government, European Truth reports.
For several months, the Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) expressed concern regarding distribution of Kaspersky Lab software in the United Kingdom.
GCHQ suspects that Kaspersky can use FSS for foreign activities.
Barclays Bank, which has been offering its clients a free use of Kaspersky Lab since 2008, intends to stop cooperation with this company.
Meanwhile, Barclays emphasized that it was decided to terminate the agreement with Kaspersky Lab for commercial reasons, and the bank did not receive any notification or recommendations from the government.
There is no evidence that somebody spied on those Barclays’ clients, who installed Kaspersky.
As previously U.S. media reported, the Israeli intelligence found out that the hackers of Russian government used Kaspersky Lab for stealing data.
