The government may obligate the Russian banks to refuse from foreign cryptography and information encryption, the representative of InfoWatch co-founder Natalia Kasperskaya said, participating in the session of the Working Group for Using Internet in Russian Economy. According to him, the banks and some state organizations use cryptographic facilities with US certificates, but they may be revoked at any time – Kommersant reports, quoting Vedomosti.
Leader of Internet + Sovereignty Subgroup Ilya Massukh also confirmed that banks’ change over to domestic cryptographic protection products is already being discussed. He told that it refers to online banking as well as portals of public services and public procurement. In the meantime, the source of Vedomosti said that the initiative was supported by the Federal Security Service (FSS).
In its turn, Group-IB CEO Ilya Sachkov added that the expenses for procurement of domestic cryptographic facilities may reach several million dollars and called the idea of change-over to the Russian cryptography unreasonable.
Previously «Ъ» informed that the public authorities are discussing the decryption and analysis of the whole internet traffic of the Russians.
